Sleep: Why We Need It!

We’ve all heard the common line, “It’s ok, I can sleep when I die!”, but interestingly enough, sleep does a number of things for our body besides preventing us from going to that 8 a.m. class. Here are some reasons not to ditch out on everybody’s favorite hobby. SLEEP!

Improves learning and memory. Sleep helps the brain commit new information to memory. Studies have shown that people who have slept after learning a task did better on tests later. So try not to pull those pre-test all nighters!

Regulates metabolism and weight. Lack of sleep may cause weight gain by affecting the way our bodies process and store carbs, and by altering levels of hormones that affect our appetite.

Increases your mood. Sleep loss can lead to irritability, impatience, inability to concentrate, and moodiness. Too little sleep can also leave you too tired to do the activities that you usually love doing throughout the day.
